From leading community focus groups to developing high-level talent attraction marketing strategies for our clients, Monica will help shape the work we do at RoleCall today and into the future.

We are so lucky to have Monica on the team and can’t wait for you to meet her. Below, get to know a bit more about Monica in her own words!

Name: Monica Hershberger

Location: Cleveland, Ohio

Family: Lance, Lena and Nellie

Describe your personality in one sentence:
Leslie Knope’s optimism, Maeby Fünke’s creative problem solving, Cosmo Kramer’s unexplainable determination, and Lorelai Gilmore’s pop culture references.

What makes you most excited about your new role (hehe) at RoleCall?!

I live for making connections! And the way that RoleCall embodies their values of joy, heart, humor, curiosity, enthusiasm, and effusive honesty throughout their (our!) work creates such a special community of collaboration.

What's the most unexpectedly awesome place you've ever been?

In 2019, I biked the rail trail from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington D.C. with my husband, and loved every nook and cranny of that trail. There were dozens of coal towns full of diners, street art, and unbelievable character, not to mention all of the beautiful nature surrounding us. There were butterflies everywhere, wild wineberries to eat, and gorgeous, enormous trees covering us throughout the journey. 10/10 recommend.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?

The Plateau neighborhood in Montreal - they have such amazing bike infrastructure and every restaurant has a secret, magical back patio.

Describe your perfect Saturday: where are you, what are you doing, what's the weather like, what are you eating, etc?.

I'd have to say April 25th because it's not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light jacket. I’m also going to assume space and time travel are possible in this scenario.

Early Morning: I go out to breakfast at a diner who has good coffee and knows how to crisp their potatoes to perfection. (In Cleveland, that’s Borderline Cafe in Lakewood.)

Mid-Morning: Go on a hike somewhere deep in the woods that has the payoff of a waterfall at the end. Ideally, this will be in Natural Bridge State Park in Kentucky, but I realize that’s a long commute from my breakfast in Cleveland. So more likely at Cuyahoga Valley National Park at Brandywine Falls or The Ledges.

Elevensies: Meet friends for some dim sum at Li Wah in Cleveland. Point to everything on the carts that pass our tables, laugh, and eat way too much. Request my favorite off menu custard buns.

Happy Hour: Have a beer at a brewery with a wicked outdoor space where my kids can climb around and I can sit at a picnic table and talk to strangers.

Late Afternoon: Magically arrive back at my house, everyone in the house takes a nap. Including myself and all of my children.

Evening: Host friends and my family for a pizza making party in my backyard. Everybody brings some ingredients and we drink cocktails, grill pizzas, turn up the music, and spend quality time together. Maybe even have a bonfire since the weather is perfect!

Here at RoleCall, we're almost as passionate about karaoke as we are about economic development, so tell us: what's your favorite song to belt out at full volume?!

“Love is a Battlefield” by Pat Benatar

But if it’s a passionate duet: “In the Still of the Night” by Boyz II Men

Thank you so much, Monica! We are thrilled to have you on the team. Want to talk to Monica about community development, building a talent attraction ecosystem, or any of the pop culture references threaded through this Q&A? You can reach her at Monica@RoleCall.pro and connect with her on LinkedIn.
